A Duke Energy accountant blew the whistle concerning the hiding of profits. Duke denied it.

The North and South Carolina regulators had the matter investigated by an outside auditing firm.

Duke tried to prevent the auditing firm from using their computers or making any copies!

A Duke executive allowed incentives to be paid on the “hidden profit”!

The auditing firm agreed that Duke hid profits. The regulators agreed with the auditing firm.

Duke still pleaded innocent, but paid millions to settle with the two states.

Ratepayers were not happy with the settlement and got into the act.
